A perfect photo shoot for the "perfect mom"

When Langley native, Amber S., realized she wasn't able to be home for Mother's Day this year, she wanted to do something special for her mother. So the media and communications specialist—who resides in Mississippi—set about planning a vintage photo shoot. With the help of Langley Spa Utopia hair stylists and makeup artist, Amber's plans went off without a hitch.

"The inspiration for this vintage 1950s shoot came from the purchase of a 1956 Chevy Belair by my mother's husband," Amber explains. "The car shares the same year of birth as my mom. It is immaculate, classic and special, just like her. We wanted to do something different and fun, and the shoot with the suitcases was a perfect fit for my for my 'living out of a suitcase' career."

After a visit to Gastown, where they were fitted out from head to toe in authentic 1950s attire by DeLuxe Vintage, Amber and her mother were styled by Spa Utopia's Master Designer, James Riyad (Amber's colour and cut), Charlene Arciaga (Amber's hairstyles), Chris Erikson (Amber's Mother's hairstyle) and Cheryl Sawyer, makeup artist—with special talents in the achievement of vintage looks.

Then it was over to Vancouver photographer, Lauren Joan, to make it all happen...

We were especially pleased to read Amber's final words on the note she sent us:

"My travels throughout the world have brought me into many spas and salons. The experience I receive at Spa Utopia Langley is consistently professional, and regardless of the service or treatment, I leave feeling beautiful and relaxed."

Thank you, Amber, for sharing with us this extra special and memorable day!
